Check the listing, card and destination together

The US program reviewed September 30 lists eligible singles at $200 or more, excluding tax and shipping, with accepted grading companies and geographic restrictions. Lots, packs, boxes and raw redemption cards are among the exclusions. PSA, SGC, CGC and BGS slabs appear in the accepted-grader list. Eligibility still depends on the listing badge and current terms.

For your own checklist, copy the listing number, card identity, badge, sale price and delivery destination before paying. A $250 asking price by itself does not prove that the order qualifies. If you are buying from another country or shipping to a territory, read the relevant restrictions instead of assuming every US-address format is supported.

Follow the two shipping legs

The intended route is seller → authentication facility → buyer. For raw cards, inspection considers authenticity and agreement with the listing; for graded cards, it includes the holder and label. The process does not regrade the card.

As a buyer, save the order page and follow its progress rather than interpreting the first delivery scan as arrival at your home. As a seller, use the destination generated for the order. An informal message asking you to bypass that destination is a reason to consult eBay support, because a different route can break the documented transaction.

Keep the package identifier tied to the listing identifier. If you sell several similar cards, a packing checklist should include the last digits of the certification or serial number. That small check can prevent a genuine card from failing listing consistency because you accidentally sent another copy.

Authentication does not settle every collecting question

Imagine a raw card whose listing clearly shows corner wear. A successful authenticity check does not turn that wear into a mint card. Conversely, a numeric grade on a slab describes a grading opinion already assigned; the transaction's inspection is not a fresh guarantee that another service would agree.

Use separate questions for separate decisions: is this the correct issue, does it match the listed condition, do I like its eye appeal, and is its price reasonable? Only some of those questions are the inspection program's job. Research exact parallels and completed sales before bidding instead of outsourcing your entire purchase decision to a badge.

A seller's preparation worksheet

Before listing, photograph the entire front and back, disclose visible flaws and identify the exact parallel. Use a neutral description that you can support. Claims such as flawless or guaranteed ten invite a dispute about something your photographs may not establish.

1. Match the physical card. Compare it to the final listing, including certification number, autograph type and serial stamp. Remove unrelated cards from the packing area.
2. Read the order instructions. Use the specified address and required shipping service features. Confirm coverage for the first leg instead of assuming the program insures every possible route.
3. Pack and retain evidence. Use protection appropriate for a raw card or slab, save the tracking receipt, and retain the listing photos through completion.
4. Resolve through the order. If the inspection finds a mismatch, review the actual reason before relisting. A vague authenticity label is not enough to diagnose a title error versus a different issue.

Read return conditions while you still have a choice

Final-sale and seller-return conditions matter. For a final-sale authenticated card damaged in transit, the reviewed program requires a return request within three calendar days of delivery. Preserve the program's packaging and seal, and use the case instructions for any authorized return.

Inspect the delivery promptly in good light and compare it with the saved listing. Photograph concerns before removing protective material beyond what is necessary to examine the item. Do not crack a slab or alter the card while deciding whether it matches the order. If the concern is simply that you later found a cheaper copy, do not misdescribe it as damage.

Worked example: a numbered card in a slab

Illustrative example: you purchase a listed blue parallel numbered 18/99, graded nine. Your personal receipt record should include all three details. The player, set and grader alone could also describe many other cards. When the package arrives, check those identifiers and the slab's visible condition before filing it away.

If the order pauses at the facility, use eBay's order support channel and provide the listing number. Do not infer a counterfeit solely from a delay. The useful next fact is the inspection status or stated discrepancy, not speculation about whether an identical copy on another marketplace belongs to the same seller.
