Which sports cards qualify?

These are the card-specific limits in eBay Help. The finished shipment also has to meet every envelope requirement. A 24-card maximum is not a promise that every stack of 24 cards will fit.

- A $32 raw single: choose another service; it exceeds the item limit.
- Two separate $15 purchases combined: evaluate the eligible combined order and completed envelope; their $30 total does not turn one $30 item into an eligible sale.
What size envelope can I use?
- Smallest
- 3½ × 5 inches.
- Largest
- 6⅛ × 11½ inches.
- Weight
- 3 oz or less, including the envelope and all packing.
- Thickness
- Uniform and less than ¼ inch at every point, following eBay Help and the terms.
- Shape
- Flexible rectangular letter; the terms specify a length-to-height ratio from 1.3 to 2.5.
- Outer material
- Paper, without plastic enclosure, clasps, strings, or buttons. Address parallel to the long edge.
Use the official envelope template for a size reference and the service terms for packaging restrictions. eBay’s template labels ¼ inch as the maximum, while its Help page uses “less than.” Leave clearance instead of packing exactly to the boundary.
The outer dimensions are only part of the decision. Adding layers around a holder can produce a stiff lump in an otherwise acceptable envelope. Inspect the completed letter, not the unused envelope from the box.
How much does eBay standard envelope cost?
On September 30, 2026, eBay Help displayed $0.82, $1.11, and $1.40 for the 1, 2, and 3 oz tiers. The Seller Center page still displayed $0.78, $1.07, and $1.36. Use the quote in eBay Labels for the actual purchase.
Price the whole shipment. A seller charging $1.25 for shipping does not necessarily have $1.25 of postage: supplies also cost money. Weigh your packed example first, then calculate postage plus supplies and decide whether your shipping charge covers it.

A $1.25 shipping charge would leave $0.11 to absorb before considering marketplace fees or your time. Replace both assumptions with your costs.
How should I pack the card?
The following is a practical workflow, not a claim that every holder-and-envelope combination will pass postal processing. eBay explains that these letters travel through roller machinery, so rigid parcel-style packing can be unsuitable.
Match the packing to the card
Check thickness, existing damage, and whether the card can be protected in compliant letter packaging. Photograph both sides for the sale record.
Protect the surface and keep the card in place
Use a clean sleeve and an appropriate holder or a purpose-made card envelope system. Keep adhesive off the card and arrange the contents so they cannot slide into a concentrated stack.
Check the complete letter
Measure its thickest point, weigh everything, and inspect for lumps or excessive rigidity. Change packaging or service if the card needs more support than a compliant letter permits.
Print and attach the matching label
Use accurate order details and a readable label. Verify the address before sealing. Keep the order, packing, and label records together so you can investigate a problem later.

Why does tracking look different from a package?
eBay provides limited integrated tracking, viewable through the order, and says no acceptance scan is required. It is not the same scan history as a USPS tracked parcel. An ESUS number failing on the usual carrier site is not enough to conclude that the seller used a fake number.
If a card is late, open the eBay order and review its expected delivery date and available updates. The buyer should use the order’s missing-item process when appropriate; the seller should respond there and retain the discussion.
eBay’s seller guidance gives sellers three business days to respond and resolve an item-not-received request before escalation. Do not postpone that response while waiting to become eligible for a shipping protection claim.
What protection is included, and when can I claim?
The shipping protection plan covers qualifying transit loss or damage up to $20 for a single-item shipment and up to $50 for combined orders, subject to the item and plan limits. eBay’s terms say this plan is not an insurance policy. A coverage ceiling is not an automatic payout.
The published waiting periods disagree. eBay Help says to wait 30 days for a lost-envelope claim. The linked terms say 15 days after label creation. Both set the filing deadline at 90 days after label creation. Check the current PIP claim instructions or eBay support for your order instead of assuming the earlier date applies.
Keep the order details, tracking number, and buyer’s complaint. Photograph damaged packaging and the card before anything is discarded. Start from the claim link in eBay Help so you use the correct service’s process. Follow any requests for supporting records; the buyer’s resolution and your claim are separate matters.
When is BMWT or a box the better choice?
Use a parcel when the card, order value, or necessary packing falls outside the letter rules. Slabs and thick relics are common reasons to move to a cushioned box or suitable mailer. Do not remove needed protection just to make the cheapest label appear.
For one U.S. option, USPS Ground Advantage includes tracking and $100 insurance under USPS terms. Compare the actual packed weight, destination, and additional coverage needs. “BMWT” alone does not specify that service.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ship a $30 card with eBay standard envelope?
No. The individual-item ceiling is $20 before tax. Combined-order protection does not make a single $30 card eligible. Use an appropriate parcel service.
Can I ship graded cards with eBay standard envelope?
No. eBay excludes graded trading cards, even if their sale price is low. Use a properly cushioned parcel and select suitable coverage.
Can I use a bubble mailer?
No. eBay’s terms exclude bubble mailers from this letter service. Adding an envelope label to padded packaging does not turn it into an eligible letter.
Does eBay standard envelope have tracking?
Yes, limited tracking is integrated into the eBay order. It does not operate like full parcel tracking, and an acceptance scan is not required. Check the order in eBay when an ESUS number does not appear on a carrier website.
Why is standard envelope missing from my shipping options?
Start by checking the listing’s category and whether the item and completed shipment meet the service limits. Correct inaccurate listing details; do not miscategorize a card or understate its size to force the option to appear.
Is a card lot the same as a combined order?
Do not assume so. A lot sold as one listing is one item for the individual selling-price check. Combining separately eligible orders does not make an otherwise ineligible listing qualify.
What if the buyer reports that the envelope never arrived?
Respond through the eBay order promptly and follow its resolution deadlines. Keep the buyer’s message, order record, and tracking. A separate PIP shipping protection claim does not replace your obligation to resolve the buyer’s request.
Can I buy a standard envelope label for a sale outside eBay?
This is an eBay service tied to eligible eBay orders. For an off-platform sale, choose an available postal or parcel service and agree on tracking, packing, and coverage with the buyer.
Should I add stiff cardboard for extra protection?
Only use packing that leaves the finished letter compliant. A rigid sandwich can defeat the letter’s required flexibility. If protecting the card properly needs stiff support, change to a parcel service rather than trying to squeeze it into the envelope rules.
