Identify whether this is the right request
Write the concern as a concrete observation. A card that you believe deserves a higher grade is a Review question. A wrong parallel on the label is an identification problem. A card damaged by a household leak is a preservation and possibly insurance problem. The guarantee is not a catch-all refund system for an unsatisfactory purchase.
The current terms restrict eligibility, including excluding the original submitter and requiring an active certification at the claimant’s purchase. They also exclude such cases as mechanical mislabels, tampered holders and environmental deterioration. Read the complete terms linked below for your situation; this guide organizes a request rather than determining a legal entitlement.
Build an evidence packet you can explain
Our suggested packet starts with the receipt, original listing, purchase date, seller correspondence and any certification record saved at purchase. Add clear current front and back images, full-holder views and a concise description of the suspected issue. Do not edit a photograph to make a mark appear stronger. Keep annotations on a separate copy.
Create a timeline with observed events only: purchased, received, first noticed and contacted support. If you do not know when a mark developed, write unknown. Separate a fact such as a visible crease from a conclusion such as it was necessarily present at grading. That distinction helps support understand what you can establish and what requires examination.
| Evidence | Question it answers | Keep privately |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt and listing | What was purchased, when and from whom? | Full transaction details |
| Saved cert record | What did the record show at purchase? | URL and dated capture if available |
| Current full-item images | What object and condition are under review? | Unedited originals |
| Short chronology | When did you observe the issue? | Dates and support ticket numbers |
Three examples that need different paths
Illustrative case A: a secondhand buyer discovers a significant condition issue and believes the numerical grade was wrong. Preserve the holder and ask PSA whether a Grade Guarantee Review is appropriate. The buyer’s description starts the inquiry; it does not establish that PSA made an error.
Illustrative case B: a base card has a label naming an expensive parallel. Do not estimate a payout from the parallel’s sale price. Mechanical-description errors are excluded under the current policy, so document the identity discrepancy and pursue the applicable correction and purchase-resolution questions. Case C: water entered the storage area after purchase. Record the damage for the relevant property or shipping issue instead of recasting it as an original grading mistake.
Request instructions before sending the card
PSA directs guarantee concerns through support and its Customer Request Center. Keep the request number with your evidence and follow the instructions supplied for the case. Do not mix this return with unrelated cards because you already have a box going to the same company. The label, destination and order identity should be unambiguous.
Ask which documents are needed, which service category to use and which charges could apply if the original assessment stands. The published process can leave the owner responsible for review and return costs. Obtain the current case-specific instructions instead of copying a mailing address or fee from an old forum discussion.

Schematic. Original procedural schematic; no eligibility or payment outcome is promised.
Understand a response without guessing a payout
PSA decides whether a covered error occurred and, within the policy’s limits, which remedy and market valuation apply. A purchase receipt is evidence, not an automatic reimbursement amount. Keep the actual determination and valuation explanation with the case. If a term or calculation is unclear, ask a focused question before treating the matter as resolved.
For your own records, distinguish an outright acquisition of the card from a payment associated with a revised grade and returned card. Those produce different inventory records. Do not continue presenting the former certification or grade as current after it has changed. Your final folder should show the item’s current status, where the card is, the amount actually received and any remaining documented question.
Frequently asked questions
Can the original submitter use this guarantee?
The current terms exclude the original submitter and people acting for that submitter’s benefit. A fresh complaint should not hide that relationship.
Is a mislabeled parallel covered by this process?
The terms exclude mechanical errors involving set, variation and parallel identification. Document it and ask about label correction and the purchase problem separately.
Does the guarantee cover environmental deterioration?
The terms exclude environmental damage and deterioration after grading, along with manufacturer-related defects. Preserve evidence for the appropriate alternative process.
Is reimbursement automatically the price I paid?
No. PSA applies its policy, limits and valuation process. The receipt supports the review but does not itself establish the remedy.
