The short answer

The 2026 Topps Chrome MVP Buyback exchanges eligible cards of the AL and NL MVP winners for store credit after November’s awards. Match the exact version to the program before treating a card as redeemable. Then compare the complete acquisition cost with credit you would actually use.
  • An MVP prediction is not a confirmed redemption entitlement.
  • A card’s listed program credit and its current sale price answer different questions.
  • Agree on the receiving shop’s terms before sending cards or planning a purchase around the credit.

How much credit does an eligible card receive?

Topps lists the following U.S. credit tiers. Eligibility comes before arithmetic: numbering alone does not establish that a card qualifies.

The announced window follows November’s MVP awards and ends January 31, 2027. Footer steps still say 2025; the program terms concern 2026.

Do Sapphire, Chrome Black or old MVP cards qualify?

Chrome Black, Sapphire and unstamped older cards are excluded. Stamped, reinserted 2025 MVP cards have a conditional repeat-winner exception. Confirm that exception directly; this guide does not assign those cards a special credit amount.

The heading says greater than 100; the FAQ includes /100 in the $100 tier. Match the named version to the eligibility list rather than resolving an unusual card from the shorthand heading.

For your own inventory, photograph the front and back and record the full product, player, number and parallel. Keep candidate cards in a separate group until the awards and receiving shop’s review are complete. A seller adding “MVP buyback” to a listing title is not a substitute for those checks.

Check a buyback card in this order
  1. PlayerConfirmed award result
  2. CardExact release and listed version
  3. ShopAcceptance and credit terms
  4. DecisionKeep, sell or redeem

Schematic. Record the evidence for each step before spending against an expected credit.

Worked example: is a $100 credit bundle a $100 gain?

Suppose a shop confirms that one base card and two ordinary refractors qualify. Their listed credit adds to $100. Now suppose the three cards cost you $61 in total, with $7 of acquisition shipping, $5 of tax and $6 to deliver them for redemption. These are invented example costs, not market prices or a shipping quote.

Your cash outlay is $79. The $21 difference between $100 credit and $79 spent is a nominal credit advantage, not $21 deposited into your bank account. It matters whether the receiving store carries something you already intended to buy at a price you accept.

For example, if your intended item costs $100 at that store but $85 delivered elsewhere, using the credit saves only $6 against buying the alternative outright: $85 minus the $79 acquisition and delivery cost. If you had no planned purchase, do not assign the unused balance the same practical value as money available for other expenses.

Use a second column for selling the cards instead. Start with comparable completed sales, then subtract selling fees and delivery costs. A scarce parallel may deserve its own sale research before you hand it over. The credit table does not establish the highest amount another collector would pay.

Can you mail cards, and what should you confirm first?

Dave & Adam’s, an authorized partner linked by Topps, describes issuing account credit after receiving and verifying eligible cards. Its current-products panel still features 2025/2026 Basketball. That panel and its older baseball examples are not a verified 2026 MLB submission form. Wait for the correct season’s instructions before mailing.

Ask the chosen shop which inventory the credit can purchase, whether it expires, whether there is a card-count cap, and how it handles a rejected card. Confirm the address and any submission form from the receiving business’s current page. Keep a copy of that answer with your inventory rather than relying on a previous year’s experience.

Prepare an itemized list with quantities and proposed categories, then have the shop confirm it. Save photographs before packing, use suitable card protection and retain shipment records. After processing, reconcile both the accepted-card count and credited amount. Resolve any difference before using the balance, while your packing record is still easy to find.

Frequently asked questions

Does buying a likely MVP’s card guarantee the credit?

No. A prediction leaves the award result unresolved. Make the purchase decision with that uncertainty visible, and verify the actual card’s eligibility before redeeming.

Can I receive cash from a mail-in partner?

Dave & Adam’s describes store or account credit, not a cash payout. Decide whether you can use that particular balance before selecting a redemption destination.

Must a buyback card be professionally graded or mint?

The partner’s FAQ does not require mint condition and excludes ripped or altered cards. Ask the receiving shop about a damaged or encapsulated copy before paying for preparation or shipping.

Does the first number in 50/150 make the card a below-/100 version?

No. The denominator describes the stated run: 50/150 is a /150 card. Read the complete stamp, then check the actual named version against the program list.

Should I redeem an unusually scarce parallel immediately?

First compare keeping it, selling it and using the proposed credit. Different goals can justify different choices, and a fixed credit offer does not replace exact-card sale research.
